Family homes located in urban centers.
Traditional houses were built out of wood, raised from the ground on stilts to avoid inclement weather, and were well-ventilated. The roofs were made of galvanized iron sheets and had a steep slope, with steep and pronounced eaves as protection from the sun and rain, with corridors, railings and wood lattice. To this day, in the largely Afro- Caribbean Jamaica Town neighborhood, many houses in this style are between 80 and 100 years old and painted in the traditional blue-green.

Traditional indigenous houses made from natural materials, Inside, there is a kitchen area, a common area and a sleeping area. Generally, they are built on stilts.

The Bribri or Uslë (pronounced ú-suré) Cosmic House, is a construction for communal use. It is also built from natural fibers and materials. It is a representation of the world according to the Bribri indigenous cosmovision.

Houses built as part of the operations of the United Fruit Company (UFCO), which tended to be made of wood with large two-story windows. The houses were different for office and field workers.
