      Dancestra
Dancestra is a fusion of the Spanish words for “dance” and “ancestor”, symbolizing the dance that we inherit combined with the contemporary, which we mix in a fusion of different elements. We started this project in 2001. In its first years, Dancestra was dedicated to the training of members and the formation of the group directed by choreographer Claudio Taylor, who has more than twenty-five years of experience in Afro- Caribbean rhythms.
Dancestra is the beginning of a series of explorations and investigations, preserving dances such as the Calypso that have been disappearing from the folklore of Limón over time. The group stands out for its charisma, choreography, connection with the audience and its stage presentation.
Throughout the years there have been different members, though a core group has always remained: Claudio Taylor, Sandi Francis, Guisella
Suarez and Sirley Gonzalez, Aracelly Hernandez recently joined our
group and Margarita
Mata has come on as an invited guest, who is in charge of the narrative part.
As members of a multiethnic and multicultural province, we have taken on the task of incorporating indigenous dances and recently we have been doing research on oriental dances, specifically Chinese dances.
Despite the limitations, the work rhythm has been maintained, forming a solid group that prepares for the different festivals and public and private presentations, both in Limón and in the rest of the country.
