   Cariari National Wetland
In the central and northern section of the country’s Atlantic coast, there are a large number of estuaries, lagoons, swamps and artificial canals of great scenic beauty that connect the coastal towns of Barra del Colorado and Tortuguero and the Port of Limón.
This wetland system provides nursery areas for a wide variety of commercially important fish and crustaceans, as well as offering breeding and feeding grounds for a wide variety of wildlife species in need of protection, such as the manatee (Trichechus manatus).
Boundaries
The wetland includes the coastal canals, channels and lagoons located between Moín and the boundary of the Tortuguero National Park.
In a strip of 100 on both banks of the lagoons, the provisions governing protection zones under the Forestry Law come into effect.
