Barbilla National Park
Return to map
How do you get there?
By vehicle. From San José, take Ruta 32 to Limón, passing
through the Zurquí Tunnel and the mountains of the Braulio Carrillo National Park. You are likely to encounter fog and rain. Please drive with your lights on. After the mountains, the road to Limón is practically straight with no hills. Take the turn-off for Siquirres. The main entrance to the park is 3 km (2 miles) from the city of Siquirres. After leaving the highway, you must follow a 16 km road to the community of Brisas de Pacuarito, where any type of vehicle can access the National Park. The park has very few services and limited signage; it is advisable to take a local guide with you.
Please note that if you have not left San Jose by 2 pm, you will be driving part of the way through the night. We do not recommend this for travelers driving in Costa Rica for the first time, as there are roads that are not marked, and rain can be an inconvenience. You may encounter potholes on the road, as well as people walking or biking, who may not be easily visible.
By air. You can also take a local flight from Tobías Bolaños
Airport to Limón Airport. Rates and schedules should be verified. From there you can take a cab or drive to Barbilla National Park, which can take approximately 1 hour.
By bus. You can take a bus on the San José - Siquirres route, which takes 1.5 hours (Transportes Caribeños, +506 2222-0610 / +506 2221-7990 / +506 2768-9484).
From there you can take a cab or drive to Barbilla National Park,
