Diving and Snorkeling
Guanacaste is a wonderful place to dive beneath the waves, whether snorkeling or scuba diving, where you can discover a colorful underwater world with species ranging from the spectacular whale shark to white tip sharks, manta rays, schools of different species, eels, lobsters and the beauty of coral formations.
Surf
Guanacaste is internationally recognized as an excellent surfing destination. Its tropical temperatures, warm waters and favorable breezes provide the perfect conditions for year-round surfing on its beaches. The best months, with the largest waves, come during the country’s rainy season. There are plenty of options for beginners and experienced surfers.
Kitesurfing
One of the most frequently visited places in La Cruz are its magnificent beaches, surrounded by the incredible Salinas Bay. These beaches are still unspoiled to this day. They are only used by kitesurfing or kiteboarding enthusiasts who come to enjoy its constant year-round wind. Experts prefer the season between November to May due to the elevated wind speeds.
Papagayo Tourism Pole
The Papagayo Tourism Pole is an initiative that is active in the cantons of Liberia and Carrillo. It is one of the international model tourism development centers, and includes international hotel chains and a marina. The area encompasses Culebra Bay, Playa Hermosa and one of the most renowned beaches for domestic tourism, Playas del Coco.
Getting into the Culture
Guanacaste enjoys a wealth of land for livestock and agriculture, which is linked to the production of products such as corn, rice, beans, citrus, melon, sugar cane, watermelon and other products. This provides an excellent opportunity for tourists who want to enjoy everything that rural Costa Rica has to offer.
Guanacaste is known for its music, the most common popular art form in the province, in which sabaneros, the cowboys of Guanacaste, play an important role. Musicians play an important role in the local culture; they are respected and esteemed. Music is a natural ability among the people of Guanacaste.
