Horizontes Experimental Forestry Station
The station is the main base of operations of the Restoration and Silviculture Program of the Guanacaste Conservation Area. One of the program’s main activities is gathering information on the restoration of degraded environments and the implementation of activities that accelerate the natural restoration of those environments within the ACG, in sites that have been heavily disturbed by human activity.
A partial inventory of biodiversity in the Refuge reports 118 species of trees and shrubs, more than 150 species of fungi and 135 species of birds (27% of which are migratory).
The Horizontes Experimental Forestry Station is located in the district of Nacascolo, canton of Liberia in the Province of Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

Previously, the Station’s land was a ranch on which cattle ranching and agriculture took place, with extensive crops such as rice, sorghum and cotton.
