MONTE ALTO
Protected Zone
An environmental conserva- tion project with high community participation
Located in the Costa Rican community of Pilangosta, Hojancha District, Guanacaste Province. Created on March
10, 1994, it is a Protected Wildlife Area that protects
the tropical rainforest and
very rainy premontane forest ecosystems. The area boasts
a great diversity of flora and fauna, especially birds and orchids and a spectacular view of the peninsular landscape from highest point of the protected area, with views of the Gulf of Nicoya, Isla Chira sector, the plains of Guanacaste and part
of the outer coast of the Nicoya Peninsula.
