Talamanca, a Land Full of Roots
Located 234 kilometers from San José, Talamanca is the fourth canton of the province of Limón and covers an area of almost 3,000 square kilometers.
The region can be accessed either through the Estrella Valley or the Sixaola Valley.
Various indigenous settlements exist in the highlands of the Talamanca mountain range, which strive to preserve their cultures and traditions. The villages of Bribrí, Uatsí, Amubrí, Bratsí and Shiroles, located in the Talamanca foothills, are also hotspots of indigenous culture.
The customs and traditions of the region’s cultural richness, as well as the lush natural environment, blur the lines of the nearby Panamanian-Costa Rican border.
An Experience to be Lived
This activity is carried out mainly in the area’s indigenous communities. It consists of having a direct experience with the people of the local communities, where visitors will learn about elements of their ancestral and current culture, including activities such as the cocoa tour, medicinal plants, language, food, canoe rides, bird watching, and more.
