Introduction
La Cruz is the tenth canton of the province of Guanacaste, established in 1969. It borders Nicaragua to the north and contains the main border crossing between the countries (Peñas Blancas).
La Cruz is located on the shores of what is now known as the Mirador de La Cruz, from where you can see wonderful and impressive sunsets in which the sun hides in the Pacific Ocean, on the wide horizon. This viewpoint and the Santa Rosa National Park are its main tourist attractions. The Casona de Santa Rosa is a special destination, a monument to the history of the country that has been preserved since the mid-nineteenth century. The beaches of La Cruz are wonderful, with the best-known options including: Soley, Rajadita, Copal and Pilas. Santa Rosa has some of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica.

The city of La Cruz is located in the extreme north of the province of Guanacaste, just 40 minutes (58.6 km) from Liberia.
