Puerto Viejo de Talamanca
The town of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is located in the province of Limón in southern Costa Rica, along the border with Panama. Puerto Viejo is surrounded by beautiful beaches that are perfect for surfing or just swinging in a hammock. The biggest attraction, however, consists of touring the natural environment that surrounds this fishing village in areas such as the Cahuita National Park or the Gandoca-Manzanillo National Wildlife Refuge.
Puerto Viejo: Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a popular tourist destination. It is known in the surfing community for having the biggest and most powerful wave in Costa Rica, called “Salsa Brava”. It is also home to beautiful beaches, such as Playa Chiquita, Playa Negra, Punta Uva and Playa Cocles, some of the most spectacular beaches in Costa Rica, which are located between Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo. The latter is a popular place for canoeing, and is located 13 km to the south, along the beach. The popular Jaguar Wildlife Rescue Center is also nearby (Wikipedia, 2015).
It is the most atmospheric of all the cities that dot its coastline, with a surfing and reggae vibe. Puerto Viejo’s main street is where most of the stores, restaurants and nightlife venues are concentrated, many of which offer live music every night.
Town of Cahuita: The community is located at the main entrance to Cahuita National Park. This has caused a strong growth in tourism activity, thanks to the large number of visitors to the park and nearby beach towns, such as Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo.
