Village of Keköldi
This community is located about 13 kilometers from the main entrance of Cahuita National Park, and is a passageway between the communities of Cahuita and Bribrí, so tourists coming to these areas and nearby communities pass through the community of Keköldi.
The region is also home to other attractive communities, such as Hone Creek, Punta Riel, La Fe, Carbón I, Carbón II, Comadre, Puerto Vargas, Bordón, San Rafael de Bordón, Vizcaya, La Estrella, Boacuare, Pandora, Shiroles and Sixaola, all of which have their own tourism initiatives in the early stages.
Meanwhile, in the northern Caribbean, visitors can enjoy a variety of activities such as walks through the forest and waterfalls, observing flora and fauna, turtle nesting, watching local and migratory birds, sport fishing, recreational cycling, horseback riding, hiking, canopy, visits to indigenous territories and plantations of cocoa, flowers and banana.
The region’s towns with tourism services include Cariari, Guácimo, Pocora, Siquirres and Batán. First class wharfs can be found in Caño Blanco and smaller ones in Barra del Colorado, Tortuguero, Hamburgo, Parismina, Pacuare, Freeman, Matina and Moín. Barra del Colorado, Parismina and Limón are also accessible by air.
Tortuguero
A small town in the middle of the rainforest, with the Río Tortuguero and its canals on one side, and the Caribbean beach on the other, where thousands of sea turtles come to nest every year. The town is located in the northern Caribbean in the province of Limón, on the coastal stretch called Barra de Tortuguero. It is quite remote and there are no roads leading to it, with access only possible by boat or plane. One interesting fact about the town is that there are no cars, so people get around by bike or on foot, using ATVs to carry cargo or pick up garbage. To go from the village to other sites located on the river bank, water transportation is the only option.
The town of Tortuguero is a small community located on one of the islands or islets between the sea and the lagoons of Tortuguero. In reality, the village consists of a single main street with no cars, where people move around on foot or by bicycle. There are a few bars, restaurants and souvenir stores; visiting this charming Caribbean village is well worth it for the opportunity to discover the rhythm of life and the culture and customs of the area.
